Rib Cook-Off Competition Rules & Regulations

 

RIB COOK-OFF OVERVIEW

The Texoma Harley-Davidson “Rib Cook-off” (the “Competition” or “Contest”)) will be
held Saturday, April 29th, 2023 starting at 10:00 am and ending at 2:00 pm. The Competition will end promptly at 2:00 PM and Entrants (as defined below) will have until 2:20 PM to turn in their entries to the official's table. Judging will then begin and awards will follow. 

ELIGIBILITY

The Contest is open only to all over eighteen (18). 

HOW TO OBTAIN AN ENTRY FORM AND ENTER THE CONTEST

As this is a team event, each member of the team must complete an entry form (the
“Entry Form” or “Entry Forms”). The Entry Form is available by logging on to http://www.Texomahd.com (the “Website” ) beginning at 9:00 a.m. on March 28th, 2023, and ending at 5:00 p.m. on April 21, 2023 (the “Entry Deadline”). 

No Entry Forms will be accepted after the Entry Deadline.

CONTEST RULES

Rib Cook-off Schedule:

8:00 AM Site set up (first come, first served) In our parking lot.
9:00 AM Cook’s Meeting with General Manager 
2:00 PM Cooking ends/ turn in
2:20 PM Turn-in time expires/ Judging begins/ Awards

 

Rib Cook-off Rules:

  1. Each team must enter the competition under a team name.
  2. A team may consist of one (1) chief cook and as many assistants as the chief
    cook deems necessary. 
  3. The chief cook will be responsible for the conduct and behavior of team members
    and guests.
  4. Each team is to provide a grill/cooker that will be used exclusively by that
    team. Wood, charcoal, gas/ propane, and smoker-type barbeques are allowed.
    Contestants may not dig pits, and fires are not permitted on the ground.
  5. Approximately one parking space will be assigned to each team. (We will try to
    accommodate more space if needed.)
  6. Each team is responsible to provide ALL of their own supplies; including pop-up
    tents, tables, chairs, utensils, ingredients, and supplies needed to practice
    responsible food handling practices.
  7. Electricity is not provided for any reason.
  8. Two (2) or more racks of ribs.
  9. Cooking may begin immediately following the cook's meeting.
  10. Play nice.
  11. Ribs must be cooked and seasoned on-site within the confines of your team’s
    assigned cooking space.
  12. Ribs may be seasoned, sauced or not, and cooked in a manner you feel will
    deliver a competitive product in the time allowed.
  13. Each team will place 6 individually cut ribs in your “turn-in” box. The
    “turn-in” box will be provided by event staff. No marking, bending tabs, or any identifying marks of any kind are permitted on or in the “turn-in” boxes or they will be disqualified.
  14. No marking or sculpting of the meat in the “turn-in” box will be tolerated. No garnish, side sauce containers, or any other foreign objects such as foil, toothpicks, or skewers are allowed in the “turn-in” box. Failure to comply with this rule will result in disqualification.
  15. No ice or water will be provided.
  16. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams will have their winning recipes and pictures of
    their ribs on Social media.
  17. Safe food handling practices must be followed as detailed below.

 

Cleanliness and Safety Rules:

It is your responsibility to practice safe food handling and use common sense. The following rules will also apply:

  1. Cleanliness of the cooks, assistant cooks, and workspace is mandatory.
  2. You must keep your cooking area clean and collect all trash before leaving.
  3. Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times.
  4. No use of tobacco products while handling the meat.
  5. Loose hair must be pulled back or confined to a hat.
  6. Proper hand washing and the use of disposable food-safe gloves shall be used at
    all times when handling food products, raw or cooked. Gloves should be changed often.
  7. No pets or small animals are allowed in the cooking area.

 

Judging Criteria:

  1. Entries will be judged by a panel of three (3) judges.
  2. Scores will be based on Appearance, Tenderness, Texture, and Taste.
  3. The scoring system is from 5 (excellent) to 1 (bad).
  4. A zero (0) score is given to disqualification and requires approval from the
    event coordinator.
  5. The team with the highest overall number will be awarded 1st place, 2nd place,
    and 3rd  place will be awarded the third highest score.
  6. In the event of a tie, the winning team will be picked by a random drawing
    among the tied entries.

Decisions of the judges and Texoma Harley-Davidson regarding the Contest are final.
Violation of any rules or regulations may result in a team being disqualified.

The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible Entries received and the
quality of the Entries received, as judged under these Official Rules.

 

Prizes:

Three (3) prizes will be awarded in this Contest.

  1. The first-place winning team will be awarded $500 cash.
  2. The second-place winning team will be awarded $200.00 cash.
  3. The third-place winning team will be awarded $100.00 cash.

 

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY

By participating in this Contest, each entrant at this moment releases, waives, discharges, and covenants not to sue Texoma Harley-Davidson, and each of its
divisions, affiliates, parent companies, subsidiaries, advertising, and promotion agencies, and employees (the “Releasees”) from any liability, claims, demands, actions, and causes of action whatsoever arising out of or related to any loss, damage, or injury, including death, that may be sustained by an entrant or any of the property belonging to the entrant, whether caused by the negligence of the Releasees, or otherwise, while participating in this Contest, or while in, on or upon the premises where the Contest is being conducted. Entrant acknowledges the unusual risks involved and hazards connected with this Contest, and elects to voluntarily participate in the
Contest with full knowledge that the Contest may be hazardous to the entrant and the entrant’s property. Entrant voluntarily assumes full responsibility for any risks of loss, property damage, or personal injury, including death, that may be sustained by the
entrant, or any loss or damage of property owned by the entrant, as a result of participating in the Contest, whether caused by the negligence of Releasees or otherwise. Entrant further agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Releasees from any loss, liability, damage, or costs, including court costs and attorney fees, that they may incur due to the entrant’s participation in the Contest, whether caused by the negligence of Releasees or otherwise.

 

CONDITIONS

By entering, each team Entrant agrees to comply with these Official Rules and the
decisions of Texoma Harley-Davidson, which is binding and final, and release Texoma
Harley-Davidson, and each of its divisions, affiliates, parent companies, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, and anyone associated with the production of this Contest, and their respective directors, officers, employees, and agents from any liability for any claims, injuries, losses or damages (including attorneys fees) of any kind arising out of their participation in this Contest or resulting from acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any prize. Each potential prize winner waives the right to assert as a cost of winning the prize any costs of verification and redemption or travel to redeem said prize and waives any liability or claims (including attorneys fees) which might arise from redeeming or seeking to redeem said prize. In the event of non-compliance with these Official Rules, or if a prize is refused or cannot be accepted for any reason, the prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected according to these Official Rules. Upon forfeiture or refusal, no compensation will be given. Acceptance of the prize constitutes permission to use the winner's name, photograph, likeness, and/or statements attributed to the winner regarding the Contest, for advertising and publicity purposes without further compensation or consent. All entries become the property of Texoma Harley-Davidson. This Contest shall only be construed and evaluated according to the laws of the state of Texas, without regard to the principles of conflicts of laws, and submission of any entry constitutes acceptance of such laws. This Contest is void where prohibited. All federal, state, and local laws and regulations apply.
